Want to become fitter for 2016? Consider this!
Exercise makes your metabolic health, balance, memory and reflexes younger. Published in The Journal of Physiology, a British study recruited 126 men and women between the ages of 55-79 who were cyclists. After putting them through a variety of tests, the study concluded that their physiology and how their body functioned was similar to “young adults”.
According to Roger Fielding, PhD, director of Tuft’s Exercise Laboratory, regular exercise can reverse some of the age-related declines in aerobic fitness and muscle strength.
However, they found that when compared to the cyclists in their 50s and early 60s, those in their 70s had lower overall aerobic capacity and less muscle mass. But, their scores were still better than those who were their age and did not exercise.
Never too late to start!
Happy and Blessed Holidays to you and your families.
