  • Organic Produce, The Facts Armlift/Brachioplasty Frittata Giada Style Skin Care Special “Smart” TCA Peels

Mused after trying a simple but tasty cocktail from the series about Italy on CNN Sundays at 9p.m. ET starring actor Stanley Tucci. A Campari spritz has, naturally, Campari, prosecco (Italian sparkling wine), and club soda. Top with an orange slice.

    Armlift / Brachioplasty
A brachioplasty reduces the size of an upper arm. Usually it involves extra, loose skin but sometimes includes fat reduction. The biggest trade-off is the scar which usually runs from the armpit to the elbow. If placed in the best spot (see picture) it is difficult to see especially once the scar has faded. The pain and recuperation is modest with arm wraps and elevation minimizing swelling. Unless circumstances change drastically, it is a once in a lifetime procedure. Organic Produce, the Facts

By definition, organic fruits and vegetables must be grown without the use of most synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, and the seeds cannot be genetically engineered. There are some factors to be considered.

ALL fruits and vegetables are good from a nutritional standpoint especially when compared to other choices in our diet. There are too many factors that go into impacting nutrition that it is impossible to compare the nutritional values of organic v. nonorganic.

According to the chairman of the Division of Agriculture and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, organic producers use pesticides-just very different types and less. He states that the concentration of pesticides is usually not zero as they may have some from a local farm that has drifted onto the organic one. The Environmental Protection agency sets the limits on pesticide residue on foods for human safety.

(Did You Know? The U.S. Department of Agriculture regulates the labelling of organic foods.)

Whatever produce you buy, washing removes not only pesticides but also dirt and microbes. Hard fruits like apples benefit with being scrubbed with a brush. Soap is not recommended since it leaves a residue.

The health implications of those who eat more fruits and vegetables have lower risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancers, and many other chronic diseases.

Ultimately, the decision to buy organic depends on if you are trying to contribute to reducing pesticide residue and supporting the environment. Also it depends on how much you can afford to spend on produce. Whatever you choose, consuming fruits and vegetables is not a wrong choice for your health.

Do you have unsightly brown spots on your face, hands or body?
SkinCeuticals (many of you use their skincare products) has developed a “pen” that uses cryotherapy or freezes age and sun spots as well as skin tags. It uses carbon dioxide which freezes the superficial part of the skin at -79 degrees C. The technique is similar to when family physicians and dermatologists use liquid nitrogen to treat skin cancers.

The procedure takes just a few minutes. The area is cleansed then sprayed with CO2 to freeze the spot. There is very little if any temporary discomfort. Immediately after, Vitamin C is applied and so can makeup. Vitamin C and a sunscreen are encouraged and should be applied while healing.

The lesion will get darker and possibly scab before it sheds. It can take 7-21 days to shed completely. Healthy pink skin or lightening of the dark spot will appear. Maturation of the skin then follows the normal skin cycle of 6 weeks.
