Mused after drinking a couple of espressos. While it may be concentrated coffee, the caffeine is less. One shot of espresso is about 63 mg of caffeine. An 8-ounce cup of coffee has 95-120 mg of caffeine; Starbucks has 75 mg in a shot and 150 in an 8-ounce cup of coffee.

COFFEE’S EFFECT ON THE BODY, GOOD AND BAD

We all know that caffeine can increase wakefulness, reduce fatigue, and improve concentration. Many studies point to about 400 mg of caffeine per day, or about four cups of coffee, for optimal health benefits. What are these, and what are the downsides?

Numerous studies show that coffee is associated with reducing heart disease, coronary artery disease, stroke, high blood pressure, heart attack, and arrhythmias. This is likely due to the antioxidants in coffee beans, which fight inflammation.

Coffee may improve your workout. Caffeine-containing beverages help by increasing muscle endurance. Many endurance carbohydrates (used during long exercise such as marathons and biking for hours) have caffeine in them.

(Did You Know? A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2026 showed that people who drank on average 2 and a half cups of coffee a day had an 18% lower risk of dementia, compared with those who drank little or no coffee. Caffeinated tea produced similar results, but decaffeinated coffee did not.)

Drinking 1-4 cups of coffee each day reduces the risk of diabetes. Phytochemicals in coffee beans prevent oxidative stress, which can lead to type 2 diabetes. Coffee also has chlorogenic acid, which may improve insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism. Obviously, stay away from sweeteners in your coffee.

Coffee might improve constipation by boosting your gut’s production of gastrin, which stimulates colonic contractions.

Coffee may also reduce your appetite.

Now the bad:

Having coffee too close to bedtime can disrupt sleep. For those sensitive, noon is the time to stop taking in caffeine.

Coffee can cause anxiety, jitters, or a racing heart. Adjust according to your body.

While it may help constipation, it may also cause diarrhea, gas, and stomach pain. It can exacerbate irritable bowel syndrome or cause acid reflux, leading to indigestion.

You may erode your tooth enamel or stain your teeth (don’t forget bad breath). All of these can be avoided by brushing your teeth after drinking coffee.

What is Dermapen? What is RF Microneedling?

Collagen Induction Therapy stimulates collagen and factors in your skin to tighten, lift, lighten pigmentation, and rejuvenate your face, neck, and chest. We offer two devices for this: Dermapen and Endymed’s 3Deep RadioFrequency. After numbing your skin, both use small needles to stimulate collagen production and decrease pigment cells. Recovery is usually overnight. RF works deeper and uses radio-frequency waves to stimulate collagen further.

LA DOLCE VITA, JOIE DE VIVRE:

Waymo, the Future is Here!

Waymo is the driverless “taxi” to get around many large cities. Similar to Uber and Lyft, it uses an app that records your payment method, asks where you want to go, and gives instructions on where to be picked up. Since it was my first time, I was amazed at how easy it was to set up, get picked up, and be delivered, especially to a complicated place like the airport. The driving was smooth. It goes the speed limit and anticipates traffic, often choosing the easiest lanes like any human driver would. I’m not telling anything new to those who own Teslas with driverless mode. But for those who’d like to try something new and perhaps the way we’ll all be driven around soon, I’d recommend it. Besides, there’s no air freshener to inhale.
