Mused after watching another episode of Black Love Money on Netflix.

A Turkish series in subtitles about the murder of two people and the discovery of how they became intertwined. Good acting and story. Another example of foreign television and films that show how talented people are throughout the world.

    AGING and DIET HUMOR

For a change I thought I’d share some humor about aging and diet.

    1.   My goal for 2017 was to lose 10 pounds. Only 15 to go.

    2.   Ate salad for dinner. Mostly croutons and tomatoes. Really just one big round crouton covered with tomato sauce. And cheese. FINE, it was a pizza.

    3.   How to prepare tofu: 1) throw it in the trash; 2) grill some meat.

    4.   I just did a week’s worth of cardio after walking into a spider’s web.

    5.   I don’t mean to brag, but I finished my 14 day diet food in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

    6.   A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.

    7.   Kids today don’t know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

    8.   Remember back when we were kids and every time it was below zero outside they closed school? Me neither.

    9.   I may not be that funny or athletic or good looking or smart or talented. I forgot where I was going with this.

    10. I love being over 50. I learn something new every day and forget 5 others.

    11. A thief broke into my house last night. He started searching for money so I woke up and searched with him.

LA DOLCE VITA, JOIE DE VIVRE:

To aid in Thanksgiving preparations, over the next few weeks I have found some non-traditional recipes for sides you may find interesting.

    Sweet Potatoes with Chorizo Butter:

Bake 6 medium sweet potatoes at 400 degrees for almost an hour. Remove and when cool enough, cut lengthwise. In the meantime, cook 4 oz. of chorizo and break into crumb-like pieces. Once cooked, add 4 oz. of butter and 3 Tbsp. of fresh lime juice. Pour this over sweet potatoes and season with salt and pepper. Return to oven under broiler and cook to brown top, just another couple of minutes. Serve with cilantro and lime wedges.

    Scalloped Oysters:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine 3 cups saltine crackers and ¾ cup unsalted melted butter. Spread 1/3 of the saltines mixture on bottom of 9×13 casserole dish. Pour half of the oysters with their liquid over the saltines. Season with cayenne pepper, salt and pepper. Repeat with next 1/3 of saltines and remaining oysters. Sprinkle remaining saltine mixture over oysters and drizzle 1 cup of heavy cream over all. Bake until bubbling and brown, about 40-45 minutes. Jeff’s Seafood Station and Kroger’s have shucked oysters. Just remind them to save you the liquid.
