    10 Swaps for Good Health; End of Summer Gin Cocktail; Movie The Father;
    Double Points with Fillers and Botox; Cheek Enhancement with Voluma 10% OFF

    Mused after…Watching the movie, The Father, starring Sir Anthony Hopkins. A drama about an elderly man with the beginnings of dementia, rejects the assistance of his daughter. The interesting twist is that you, as the audience, don’t know what is real and what is not. Gives you the appreciation of what the mind disease may be like with those who have it.

    10 Swaps of Good Health

    1. Trade nuts for refined carbohydrates like chips, and crackers. Some evidence that nuts lower your risk of high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
    2. Swap lentils for plant proteins for some of your animal proteins. Those who consistently do those are associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
    3. Cook at home instead of eating out. Not only will you control the type of foods you eat, you also control the portion size.
    4. Try barley or other whole grains instead of white rice or refined grains. Refined grains strip away the fibrous bran and nutrient rich germ. Other whole grains include: brown rice, bulgur, farro, oats, and quinoa.
    5. Swap exercise you hate for movement you love. Physical exercise does not have to be regimented to be beneficial. Dance, hiking, bike, walking or gardening are all beneficial. Try doing some with family or friends for more enjoyment.
    6. Try a “dessert flip”. For example, instead of putting strawberries on cake, try putting dark chocolate shavings on strawberries.
    7. Choose crunchy produce, not chips. Try vegetables with fat free ranch dressing or apple slices with nut butter.
    8. Choose small plates over big plates as a way of controlling portion size.
    9. Try a walk instead of a snack. Activity can boost energy, alleviate boredom, and reduce stress.
    10. Use the stairs, not the elevator. Or my favorite is park away from the store and walk that extra distance. Use commercial time to do small chores around the house also adds activity.
    (Did You Know? My friends and I are currently biking on Saturday mornings. We then head to The Governor in Milford for brunch.)

    LA DOLCE VITA, JOIE DE VIVRE:
    Summer Gin Cocktail (something I made up)

    Put 12 oz. of lemonade (I used low calorie lemonade) and 8 oz. of gin in a blender. Add 2 sprigs of mint (about 10-12 leaves). Cut into pieces a half peeled and deseeded cucumber and half a cantaloupe and add to blender. Add about 4 scoops of ice. Blend well (I used a Vitamix). Makes 4-6 drinks.
