Recent Controversies in Coolsculpting
Coolsculpting or cryolipolysis is a technique of freezing fat cells which then die and are reabsorbed by the body. It usually takes about 45 minutes per site and removes 20-25% of the fat cells in that area. Resumption of daily activities is immediate. The contour improvement may take 1-4 months to fully appreciate. Joni, our Coolsculpting specialist, has been changing shapes for 8 years with our system.
Two controversies in Coolsculpting have recently been in the news.
The first is that the most recent machine released by Allergan has been having issues that has had led to a recall of the “Elite” system. We DO NOT use that system. Our two machines have been approved by the FDA and used successfully for years.

The second controversy involves a suit filed by a well-known model who claims it has deformed her. It supposedly involves a rare phenomenon called paroxysmal adipose hyperplasia (PAH). Allergan states it happens about once in every 70,000 treatments. It is when after freezing the fat and their removal that the remaining fat cells get larger over time. The treatment of PAH is liposuction.

Smoothie of the Week
To your blender or Vitamix add: 8 oz. each of lemonade and cranberry juice (I use low calorie), a handful of kale, 4-6 basil leaves, and a cup of frozen mixed berries. Blend for at least a minute to incorporate the “greens”.
