  • Happy MLK Day, Happy 99th Birthday Betty White New Federal Dietary Guidelines, Free Coolsculpting Augmentation Sizing at Home, Series “Justified”

Mused after finishing the first year of the series Justified. Yes, I know I’m late to this 2011-2015 series. Based on a federal marshal in Kentucky (many references), it stars one of my favorite actors, Timothy Olyphant (who stars in the current Netflix show, Santa Clarita Diet). He’s got the demeanor of a young Clint Eastwood.

    New Federal Dietary Guidelines

    1. Follow a healthy dietary plan at every stage of life. For under 6 months feed exclusively breast milk. From 6 to 12 months start introducing nutrient dense foods. After a year old follow a healthy dietary plan to meet nutritional needs.
    2. Customize and enjoy nutrient-dense food and beverage choices to reflect personal preferences, cultural traditions, and budgetary considerations.

(Did You Know? The government agency that makes these decisions for the next five years takes recommendations from a committee of 20 academics and doctors. They did however recommend decreasing the number of alcoholic drinks men take daily from two to one and that added dietary sugars should be decreased from 10% of the diet to 6%. Neither were put into practice by the federal agency.)

3.Focus on meeting food group needs with nutrient-dense foods and beverages, and                 stay within calorie limits.

The core elements that make up a healthy dietary pattern include: * Vegetables of all types-dark green; red and orange; beans, peas, and lentils; starchy; and other vegetables * Fruits, especially whole fruit * Grains, at least half of which are whole grain * Dairy, including fat-free or low-fat milk, yogurt, and cheese, and/or lactose-free versions and fortified soy beverages and yogurt as alternatives * Protein foods, including lean meats, poultry, and eggs; seafood; beans, peas, and lentils; and nuts, seeds, and soy products * Oils, including vegetable oils and oils in food, such as seafood and nuts.

4.Limit foods and beverages higher in added sugars, saturated fat, and sodium, and                   limit alcoholic beverages.

Added sugars-Less than 10 percent of calories per day starting at age 2. Avoid foods and beverages with added sugars for those younger than age 2. * Saturated fat-Less than 10 percent of calories per day starting at age 2. * Sodium-Less than 2,300 milligrams per day-and even less for children younger than age 14. * Alcoholic beverages-Adults of legal drinking age can choose not to drink, or to drink in moderation by limiting intake to 2 drinks or less in a day for men and 1 drink or less in a day for women, when alcohol is consumed. Drinking less is better for health than drinking more. There are some adults who should not drink alcohol, such as women who are pregnant.

LA DOLCE VITA, JOIE DE VIVRE:

Interested in Breast Augmentation?   A new addition to the Allergan, Natrelle web site allows you to see approximately how you would look after augmentation. We have had a couple of patients use this and saw it’s pretty accurate. Our method of sizing is for the patient to bring in the bra they would like to fit in and we add “sizer” implants. A form fitting shirt and checking out their appearance in the mirror completes the sizing. Go to www.natrelle.com/augmentation for the sizer and more information.
