Food Poisoning
One in six Americans suffer from food poisoning yearly. There are over 125,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths annually. Preparing food with unwashed hands, undercooking, keeping food at an incorrect temperature or leaving food out too long are things we can control.
Myth 1: The last meal I ate is to blame. Symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and stomach cramps can actually begin anywhere from a few hours to several days after eating contaminated food.
Myth 2: It’s the mayo. Mayonnaise is usually not to blame when people get sick from picnic fare. Store bought mayo is made using pasteurized eggs and has vinegar which helps prevent bacterial growth.

Myth 3: Cooking kills any pathogens. While heating foods to the appropriate temperature in cooking, they need to be KEPT in a safe temperature to remain safe.
Also, abide by guidelines when deciding whether to eat those leftovers even if they have been kept at the appropriate temperature.

One more myth is that French monk Dom Perignon invented champagne. Actually English scientist Christopher Merrett discovered the secondary fermentation that creates the bubbles for sparkling wines. Champagne is from that region in France, sparkling wines are from anywhere else. There are 49 million bubbles in a bottle of Champagne. A cork can reach 24.8 mph once popped, duck. Originally German bottle makers put the indent in the bottom of the bottle to stabilize the pressure. It was called the stulpboden, now known as the punt. In French, the muselet is the wire cage over the cork, mousse is the foam of the Champagne when poured, and collerette are the bubbles that ride up the sides of the glass once poured. Cheers!
