  • Americans Sleeping More, Working Less. Botox Day Tuesday, July 19

Mused while making gazpacho and sangria.  Summer essentials!

Botox Day is Tuesday July 19 with discounts on Botox and fillers such as Juvederm.  Botox is $13/unit or $195/syringe (normally $16/unit and $240/syringe) and fillers are 10% off.  Voluma is an injectable filler that augments and lifts the cheeks.

The Labor Department’s annual American Time Use Survey shows how we have spent our time. Overall, Americans slept an average of 8 hours and 50 minutes a day.  Leisure time averaged 5 hours and 13 minutes.  However, there is a significant difference between those who work and those who don’t.

Those who work averaged 8 hours and 8 minutes either working or traveling to work.  Interestingly, 24% of all workers did at least some tasks from home up from 19% ten years ago.  Those with jobs dedicate 8 hours and 52 minutes to sleep and personal time on weekdays while those without jobs spend over 10 hours on the same.

(Did You Know?   56.7% of all women are in the labor force and 68.9% of men.)

“Not employed” include those looking for work, retired, and those who choose not to work.  They spend 3 hours each day on leisure than those who work.  But they also spend an hour each day on education which workers don’t.  Also, those not working spend twice as much time on housework.

Lastly, women spent 2 hours and 14 minutes on household chores while men spent only 1 hour and 26 minutes.

Dr. Alison Gopnik’s, Professor of Psychology, UC, Berkeley, thoughts on parenting:

“Love’s purpose is not to shape our beloved’s (children’s) destiny but to help them shape their own.

Caring for children is like tending a garden, and being a parent is like being a gardener.  When we garden, we work and sweat and we’re often up to our ears in manure.  We do it to create a protected and nurturing space for plants to flourish.

Our Job is not to make a particular kind of child but to provide a protected space of love, safety and stability in which children of many unpredictable kinds can flourish.”
