Eggs are inexpensive, protein packed, and relatively low in cholesterol.
There is 186 mg of cholesterol in the average egg. It is contained in the yolk. The American Heart Association recommends 300 mg of cholesterol or less each day. For those with normal cholesterol four eggs or less per week are acceptable. Anyone with high cholesterol should try to consume two eggs or less each week.
There are 6 gms of protein and 80 calories in an egg. Egg whites have only 15 calories. Also in eggs are Vitamin A, minerals, iron, zinc, and B12.
(Did You Know? The color of the egg is a reflection of the color of the chicken. Hence brown eggs come from brown chickens.)
Cooking does not change the nutrients of eggs. Raw eggs consumed ala “Rocky” style may carry salmonella bacteria. Finally, Egg Beaters are egg whites unless otherwise marked.
