Nine percent of women have some form of iron deficiency. Many times it is easily treated through diet, supplements, or physician visits. The key is to recognize the symptoms and have your iron levels tested.
Ten Signs of Iron Deficiency
- General fatigue from lack of enough blood cells.
- Difficulty focusing due to depressed neurotransmitter synthesis. In other words, thought processes are slowed.
- Apathy towards anything and everything.
- Breathlessness even without exercising. Again, lack of blood cells.
- Unusually pale skin, the vampire kind, from you guessed it, lack of blood.

- Trouble with your usual workout. We all have off days, but chronic can mean a medical issue.
- Crazy sore muscles from exercising. Iron is necessary for muscle recuperation.
- Brittle nails with concave or spoon-shaped depressions. Perhaps the most objective sign.
- Frequent infections especially respiratory.
- Pink/red urine caused by increased intestinal absorption of pigments. An example would be beets.
