Prediabetes means that you have an elevated blood sugar but not enough for a diagnosis of diabetes. Sounds simple? However 90% of those with it don’t realize it. This includes 1 out of 3 U.S. adults. Adult onset diabetes affects about 22 million people in the U.S. today up from 5.5 million in 1980.
Between 15-30% of those with prediabetes will develop into Type 2 or adult onset diabetes. Those at risk have a blood-sugar level between 5.7% and 6.4% on a test known as an A1C. Diabetes is diagnosed with those who have an A1C 6.5% or higher.

The good news is that even if you are a prediabetic, you can cut your chances of developing Type 2 diabetes. The three keys to this are losing weight, eating more healthy foods, and being more active. There are over 900 CDC-recognized weight-loss and exercise programs across the country.
