Botox Day Tomorrow September 15, Contact Lens Care

Botox Day is tomorrow Tuesday September 15th with discounts on Botox and fillers such as Juvederm. Botox is $13/unit or $195/syringe (normally $16/unit and $240/syringe) and fillers are 10% off. Voluma is an injectable filler that augments and lifts the cheeks. Buy a syringe for each side and get half off the second side saving $400. After tomorrow Voluma will be 10% off like our other fillers.

Many of us wear contact lens as a convenience over glasses. I switched when I had accumulated “cheater” glasses in most rooms of the house. I was also paying for high definition on our televisions but not seeing it. The problem with contacts (besides getting used to putting them in and taking them out) is that certain behaviors can lead to serious eye infections.

Most ophthalmologists advise against wearing contact lenses while swimming, showering, or sleeping. About 99% of us who wear contact lenses will do one of these behaviors. Overall the risk of wearing a contact lens is 10 times higher than those who do not wear contact lenses.

Bad behaviors can lead to viral, bacterial, or fungal infections. Scratched corneas are also not uncommon. Pseudomonas keratitis is a common bacterial eye infection among contact lens wearers. It is often inflammatory with a sudden onset of redness, pain, tearing and poor vision.

Besides avoiding bad behaviors, following common sense rules can limit eye infections. Change contact lens solution in the case daily. Do not reuse the solution. Do not use water or saliva to moisten lenses. Replace your lens container every three months. Do not try to extend the use of lenses by wearing longer than they are prescribed.
