Use Self-Compassion to Help Mend Our Errors Mushroom & Gruyere Croissant Breakfast Casserole Recipe Do You Make New Year’s Resolutions? I Resolve to Make One and Only One!
Mused after reading “when we lack compassion for our missteps, we are not only more likely to beat ourselves up, but also less likely to learn from our mistakes…we believe they are inescapable parts of our character. It is only when we see them as a natural part of the human condition, rather than as part of us as individuals. To err, of course, is all too human. Self-forgiveness is both divine and constructive.” Make self-compassion a priority in 2025!

MATTERING
“Mattering” is the belief that you are valued and important to others. The power of believing in mattering is that YOU can make others believe they are valued and matter, whether you are a boss, friend, or family member. This gives us the feeling that we add value to the lives of others.
Feeling “mattered” results in lower levels of loneliness and fewer health risks. Studies show there is less anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, and substance abuse.
(Did You Know? Studies show that it’s not the number of relationships one has but rather the quality of any relationship.)
Appreciation is the number one trait that successful relationships have and is a key to mattering. For a couple, appreciation for the “little” things that are done for each other elevates the positives in the relationship. Also, praising someone for what they have done (both personally and publicly) helps improve mattering. When people find out how their efforts help a broader plan, it energizes them.
The spillover effect of mattering is that it is infectious. Others start to adopt it to either their work, family, or friends. Make complimenting and appreciation two of your New Year’s resolutions.

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS
Do you make New Year’s resolutions? I’m not big on resolutions and prefer to try to be a better person in as many ways as I can the following year. This year, however, is an exception. I have found myself, like many others, virtually addicted to Amazon shopping. The app, emails, shows on Prime, and even occasional texts from Amazon tell me they know more about me than I do. It’s an evil friend who keeps encouraging me to buy some low-priced Chinese item that is supposed to make me look or feel better. No more! No more opening the app or email that says how much I can save. (I’ll let you know how many days it takes before my willpower melts.)
LA DOLCE VITA, JOIE DE VIVRE:
Mushroom & Gruyere Croissant Breakfast Casserole
This adaptable breakfast casserole is tasty around the holidays and winter weekends.
Melt two Tbsp of butter in a large skillet. Add chopped mushrooms (one box), garlic (two cloves), shallots (one), and a Tbsp. of thyme. Season with salt and pepper. (Note: you can also add ham, bacon bits, artichoke pieces, or chopped leeks too. I did ham.) Cook for about five minutes and transfer to a bowl. Stir 2 ounces of room-temperature cream cheese and 1 cup of grated Gruyère into the mushroom mixture.
Separately whisk together 6 eggs, 1 cup of half and half or cream, and 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard with salt and pepper.
Grease a 9-by-9-inch baking dish with 2 Tbsp of melted butter. Cut three small croissants in half or use brioche bread and put them into the base of the dish. Place the mushroom mixture on top and pour the egg mixture over all. Sprinkle another cup of Gruyère on top. Now the directions call for covering and waiting 4 hours to overnight before baking, but I put it in the oven right away.
To bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cover dish with foil and bake 25 minutes. Uncover and finish baking eggs until set, about 15 minutes. Enjoy!

TESTIMONIAL:
Everyone was wonderful. I could not have made a better decision to have Dr. McKenna and his staff do my tummy tuck. Every question and concern were addressed to full understanding. The facility is beautiful, more relaxing than a hospital setting. Thank you so much. M.T
