Even those of you that are fastidious about skin care may be doing indifferent or harmful things to your face.  You would think that simply washing with soap and water would be acceptable.  However, each of us has unique skin characteristics that need specific care.  Here are some myths.

  1. The more you wash your face, the cleaner it will be.  Most skin care experts recommend washing your face (unlike your hands) once or twice a day.  After that it begins to dry out.  A cleanser matched to your skin is helpful in regulating oiliness and dryness.
  2. Scrubbing, when you wash, is helpful.  Actually, it abrades and breaks down the skin leaving irregularities.  Scrubbing will not remove age spots or acne.  Other topical medication like bleaching creams or benzoyl peroxide are necessary for problem skin.
  3. Cleansers should foam.  It is totally immaterial to washing and caring for your skin.

(Did You Know?   Permanent makeup (lip liner, eyeliner, etc.) will be 15% off the months of November and December.  There is little down time even with holiday parties.  Contact Karine for more information at 513-793-5772.)

  1. Your face should have a “squeaky-clean” feel after cleansing. If this occurs you are over-cleansing and will dry out your skin potentially damaging it.
  2. After cleansing, rinse with cold water to close your pores.  Well, pores don’t open and close.  Therefore just use lukewarm water for washing and rinsing.

If you have not been in to have your facial skin evaluated by our skin care nurses I would highly recommend it.  It is the one thing that can benefit everyone at least over the age of 30 or with problem skin.  It takes only an hour with no down time.
