Mused after a trip to Chicago where I was asked by Allergan (Botox, Juvederm, Voluma) to be a consultant. It was a privileged opportunity to share my experiences injecting fillers with 20 others from around the country. By the way, it’s our policy that if you have not had Botox or fillers (Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure) that you are eligible for the 10% discount ANY office hour, not just Botox Days.

Sweat cools you, moisturizes your skin, and contains antibacterial compounds to ward off infection. Each sweat gland is surrounded by nerves which, when the body heats up, cause the gland to secrete.

Reducing your sweat is a socially-based issue. Most of us use aluminum-based antiperspirants to block armpit pores. The best time to apply is at night. Feet secrete a pint of sweat each day. An athlete’s foot powder and bioceramic socks (Asics Rally Crew) help reduce sweat. There are topical deodorants for hands like armpits, but like armpits excessive sweaters may benefit with Botox. (We have a number of patients we inject for excessive armpit sweating especially if right before a big event like weddings and business projects.)

(Did You Know? You have 2-5 million sweat glands on your body. The average person sweats .6 to 2.3 liters daily. Sweat is 99% water.)

Sweat is essentially odorless. However, bacteria are attracted and cause an odor. Under duress you also leak from scent glands that secrete an odiferous fluid. Oil from sebaceous glands mixes with sweat and can contribute to smell. Garlic and curry migrate to sweat glands through your bloodstream. Dead skin in areas where folds rub together slough off and feed bacteria.

Tricks to staying cool include holding a frozen water bottle in your hands, menthol mouthwash that fools your body into thinking it is cooler, and putting an ice-filled bandana around your neck. Lastly, WHEN EXERCISING, DRINK 16 OUNCES OF WATER FOR EACH POUND LOST.

    LA DOLCE VITA:

I saw the musical Godspell recently at the Mariemont Community Theater. It’s always great to support local endeavors whether they are small businesses, outdoor food markets or local theater. Godspell was the last play I was ever in 40 years ago. Maybe it’s time again to practice my “To be or Not to be”…lol.

Vollure is the newest filler for fine wrinkles. It doesn’t project as much as Juvederm but is smoother and lasts up to 18 months. Volbella is a lip filler that DOES NOT exaggerate the lips but improves wrinkles and creases in the lips and the skin just above the lips. Studies show it lasts for about a year. Come in and see what it has done for Diane, Crystal and Dianna. Voluma augments the cheeks and lifts some of the lower tissues. The pictures below are of Volbella for lip enhancement.
