(Addendum to last week’s fluoride controversy: Utah has just passed a law that will prohibit fluoride added to their water.)
Mused after going to The Dillard’s Outlet store in Eastgate. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! Patients have encouraged me to go for the discounts. So, the one day I happen to go is the day when many of their clothing items are 99 cents! Yep, you read it right. Not only is the store packed but the aisles have room for only one person at a time. Chaos! Trying on clothes was impossible so if you thought it might fit you just bought it. Goodwill got a few things from me. The manager told me anything leftover would go to Matthew: 25. Checkout took an hour and a half. YIKES! (But everyone likes a deal)

How Your Dentist Could Save Your Life
Checking for plaque, cavities and gum disease is only part of a dentist’s responsibility in oral checkups. Here are some of the more common threats.
Oral Cancer. Rough spots, swelling, lumps or unexplained bleeding might signal head and neck cancers. While only 4% of all cancers, they are more prevalent in older adults.
Diabetes. About 9% of Americans have been diagnosed with diabetes but it’s estimated another 23% of adults who don’t know have it. Elevated sugar levels in the blood are also elevated in saliva. Bacteria feed on that fueling inflamed and bleeding gums.
Sleep Apnea. More than a quarter of American adults are believed to have sleep apnea: a pattern of frequent lapses in breathing during sleep, often accompanied by heavy snoring. This increases the risk for heart disease, diabetes and stroke. Dentists might suspect sleep apnea if they notice enlarged tonsils, tongue or jaw muscles.
(Did You Know? Over 100 conditions can produce signs in the mouth according to the American Heart Association.)
Osteoporosis. This condition may show up on an x-ray of the teeth. Missing and loose teeth can also be a sign.
Acid Reflux. Eroded enamel on the back of teeth is a major clue to reflux.
Eating Disorders. Disorders involving purging can be manifested by deterioration of the back teeth and enamel erosion due to stomach acid. Girls and women are twice as affected as men.
Be proactive and tell your dentist any changes in your oral health as well as general health updates.

LA DOLCE VITA, JOIE DE VIVRE:
Dip for Shrimp, (I guess I could call it shrimp dip)
I had some leftover ricotta cheese and marina sauce from the recent baked rigatoni recipe. I took about half and half of each and mixed it in a small bowl. Adding a small amount of horseradish gave it that distinctive flavor without much heat.
