GREEN JUICE” (Next week: Don’t Be Fooled by Weight Loss Fads) Breast Augmentation Special with Free Juvederm filler or Botox! A User’s Guide to Mustard April is Vitamin C Month! Win a Full-Size Vitamin C!! See details below. Review of Le Bar a Boeuf French restaurant. Care Credit Payment Plans
Mused after recently eating at Le Bar a Boeuf, a Jean Robert De-
Cavel French bistro style restaurant. Many classic dishes such as escargot, foie gras, onion soup and beef bourguignon. There are other dishes that just have a French spin on them such as chicken, fish and a hamburger. Desserts were delicious. It’s a good place to sit outside too as it overlooks the Ohio River. Wine prices reasonable.

“GREEN JUICE”
“Green juice” or drinks made by juicing veggies like leafy greens and celery are similar to other “juicing” drinks. Claims of improving health are exaggerated. Convenience, portability, and substituting for more unhealthy drinks are advantages. Here we’ll explore some of the “green juice’ claims.
It increases nutrient intake. If you don’t normally eat many fruits or vegetables, drinking juiced greens can help. However, juicing does remove most of the fiber from eating whole plants. Drinking also consumes calories faster than eating resulting in a higher caloric intake.
It hydrates your cells. Any fluid will keep you hydrated and actually, water is the best.
(Did You Know? Some green vegetables like spinach, beet greens, Swiss chard, rhubarb leaves and collard greens are high in oxalates which are associated with an increased risk of kidney stones.)
It contains enzymes that improve digestion. All raw vegetables contain enzymes. The problem is that stomach acid probably breaks down these enzymes. Your body makes all the enzymes it needs.
It reduces systemic inflammation and strengthens your immune system. This claim involves chlorophyll which plants use to convert sunshine to energy. It has been studied in test tubes but not in humans. Chlorophyll is broken down in human digestion and therefore probably has no health benefits.
Improve gut health. Again, juicing eliminates most fiber and therefore doesn’t help the gut much.
What to do. Make green vegetables part of your daily food choices. Drinking an occasional juice is fine but it’s not a “superfood”. Aim for a variety of colorful vegetables and fruits to ensure you are getting the nutrients and fiber your body needs.
