Excuses Why Guys Don’t do Therapy

First, these excuses aren’t exclusive to men but we seem to make more of them for a variety of reasons. Secondly, most men would benefit with some form of therapy to improve their relationships, deal with stress, or the “feeling down” that most of America feels since we don’t have much control over Covid-19 and it limits our activities. Lastly, understanding WHY someone doesn’t want to do something like therapy helps to assist them in overcoming that feeling.

  1. THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH ME.
  2. Okay, fine. Maybe something’s kind of broken. But therapy can’t fix me.
  3. I can’t do therapy-I’m the guy who is supposed to have my shit together.
  4. Going to therapy means I’m weak.
  5. They’re gonna sit there and judge me. I’m not paying for that.
  6. I have a spouse, drugs or alcohol for therapy.
  7. I went but the therapist just sat there and didn’t say anything.
  8. I don’t want to complain.
  9. I don’t want to talk shit about anyone.
  10. ONCE YOU START THERAPY, YOU’RE NEVER DONE.
  11. I don’t even know who to call.
  12. I don’t want to take pills.
  13. I’ve tried but finding a therapist is impossible.
  14. I wouldn’t know what to say to a therapist. (I’m deal with x problem, what is your experience?  What kind of treatment? How does that work? How do you assess progress? How long? What is your availability? What is the cost?)
  15. I’m broke and can’t afford therapy. Websites: Talkspace, 7 Cups of Tea, Betterhelp, Woebot.
  16. What if my spouse, friends or employer find out?
  17. I DON’T HAVE TIME.
  18. It’s too weird hanging out in the therapist’s waiting room.
  19. I have other day to day hassles and I don’t need another one.
  20. I’ll just say it, I’M SCARED!

LA DOLCE VITA, JOIE DE VIVRE:

Cioppino, is a seafood stew first described by San Francisco Italian fishermen. They would share their catch with others and then make a tomato based stew with whatever fish they had. I used it for my leftover seafood from the lobster bake. Ina Garten gave me the inspiration and below is her recipe.

NEW SECTION! SOMETHING ABOUT THE STAFF!

Jayna Minges, Skin Care

Q: How did you come to McKenna Cosmetic Surgery?

A: Five years ago, when I was working as a Skin Care Specialist/Medical Esthetician at a Women’s health and Wellness Center. I was eager and very interested in learning, experiencing, and growing more as a specialist in my field. I had mentioned this to a good friend of mine, who is a patient of Dr. McKenna’s. She told me to apply to his office. She herself, is a skin care practitioner and stated that he is one of the best surgeon’s in the city. 🙂

Q: What area do you work in and what are your duties?

A: I work in Skin Care. I provide care for our patients who want to learn how to properly take care of their skin at home to maintain optimal skin health and to keep the skin looking its very best. I provide skin care consults, analyses, and skincare product recommendations. I also provide custom preventative and corrective in office skin care treatments and facial resurfacing such as microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, chemical peels, and microneedling treatments.

Q: Your most unusual/memorable job?

A: Most people would probably say pimple popping! I feel that all of the positions that I have held in this industry have been memorable. I have worked in skin care for 20 years! I have been a student, educator, business owner, and am an ongoing trainee in the field of Skin Care. I have worked for and trained with some of the best educators, facialists, and physicians in the industry. I am truly grateful for all the opportunities that I have received. ❤️

Q: What do you want our patients to know about what you do here?

A: I want them to know that I am here to help them look and feel their best and most comfortable in their own skin. The skin is the only organ that we are able to view the outward changes made through self-care and through healthy habits. I want all of our patient’s to know that it’s never too late to start taking care of their skin!
