Mused after watching a few interesting shows. All are drama-comedies. The Bear is about a chef trying to step down from fine dining to a sandwich shop to help his family, on Hulu. Unstable, stars Rob Lowe as an eccentric billionaire in a tech company. His real-life son plays his son in the show, Netflix. Lastly, Beef, is not about the meat, but rather a road rage gone out of control. It becomes deeper after the first episode when the lives of the individual characters are exposed, so hang in there, Netflix. (Don’t forget Mrs. Maisel, first couple of episodes have been great!)
TUMMY TROUBLE? WHEN TO SEEK HELP
Recently yours truly went to an unnamed Caribbean Island and came home with an unnamed tropical disease. After some time, I began to wonder how long should I let it go on before seeking help. Here’s what I found:
Signs when you should seek medical attention include: unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite, persistent abdominal pain, trouble swallowing and red or black blood in your stool. Other, less major symptoms that become persistent include: diarrhea, heartburn, constipation, and vomiting that lasts more than a day or two.
(Did You Know? Abdominal pain can reflect something critical like appendicitis, diverticulitis or kidney stones or chronic like celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease or irritable bowel syndrome.)
Other issues and suggested treatments:
Belching/bloating- Cut back on carbonated beverages and gas-producing foods like beans, onions, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower.
Constipation- Increase intake of fiber, fluid and be more active. Metamucil or stool softeners can help as well as temporary use of laxatives.
Diarrhea- Hydrate and use something that slows your intestinal motility like Lomotil.
Heartburn- Avoid caffeine, alcohol, citrus, tomatoes, and high fat foods (gravy at Thanksgiving always does me in.) Wear loose clothes and avoid exposure to smoke. Antacids and acid blockers can help. Thanks to P & G for selling Pepcid.

Salt has its own email about the hazards of too much sodium and its effect on blood pressure but today is about how to use it on meats on why it’s so effective.
Plan on ¾ to 1 teaspoon of kosher salt per pound of beef, pork or poultry.
Place on a baking sheet uncovered on the bottom shelf of the fridge. At first, moisture will appear on the surface as the salt draws water out of cells. Within an hour, reverse osmosis will carry that moisture and any other seasoning back into the meat.
As the salt goes to work inside the muscles, it begins to breakdown proteins to make the meat more tender.
Take the meat out of the refrigerator at least an hour before cooking to raise the temperature to room level.
When cooking in an oven, use a low sided pan or sheet to allow hot oven air to wash over the meat.
If browning is desired like for turkey or rib roast, turn the oven to 500 degrees initially then reduce to 325 after 20 minutes.
After cooking cover the meat and let it rest. The larger the cut of meat, the longer the rest.

Prices going up…
It’s been many years since we last increased our prices particularly with micropeels or the lunchtime facials that have such a loyal following. I’m sure everyone can appreciate how costs of labor, materials and manufacturing have gone up. Beginning April 1st, the costs of skin care products will go up commiserative with what the companies have increased to us. We will however have deluxe samples to go with many of the skin care products during the month of April. On May 1st, services are going up but there will be packages for each of them to save in costs. For example, micropeels will be $130 each but a package of 3 will be $360 and a package of 6 will be $660. May’s special will be 50% off for referrals to skin care for micropeels as well as for our patient who made the referral.
Dr. McKenna’s secret to his skin appearance is that he has been using our skin care products for many years. He said, “the skin care nurses tell me what to use and how to use it and I just put it on.”
In the AM: CE Ferulic, DOSE product specifically for him, and sunscreen.
In the PM: Retin-A and TNS Advanced Serum.
(By the way, he hasn’t had a facelift! ;))
