THE BEST MONTH TO GET YOUR FLU SHOT
The CDC estimates that there were over 20 million cases of influenza last year leading to 230,00 hospitalizations and 14,000 deaths. Cases were high the week leading up to Christmas.
Each summer, flu shots are manufactured to protect against the predicted strains of influenza that fall and winter. The vaccine creates antibodies against the flu virus but takes a few weeks to stimulate your immune system. On the other end, your immunity may wane before the end of flu season.
(Did You Know? It usually takes 24-48 hours after being exposed to someone with the flu before experiencing symptoms. In general, those vaccinated have about a 60% less chance of developing the flu. Only 58% of Americans received a flu shot the past few flu seasons.)
To determine the best time to get vaccinated, scientists looked at when children received a flu shot. In an analysis spanning seven flu seasons and including over 800,000 American children aged 2-5, they found that children with October birthdays (and hence saw their pediatricians) were the least likely to develop influenza. The benefit is also greater in the most severe flu seasons because of the optimal timing.
It’s worth noting that each flu season is different and like vaccines, the timing doesn’t always match up optimally.

Easy Egg Casserole:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Dice a shallot, a fennel bulb, ½ lb. of cherry tomatoes, and ½ lb. of smoked salmon, cooked bacon or sausage. Mix 8 eggs and ½ cup of cream together. Add dry ingredients. Pour into casserole dish. Bake 20-30 minutes until egg is cooked.
Is it a Drink or is it a Dessert?
To a blender add; chocolate gelato, Irish Cream liquor (I get mine from Costco, inexpensive) and cold brew coffee. Mix until creamy. Use whatever amounts you find tasty, exploring is the fun part!
