DESCRIPTION:Mused after dealing with blurry vision for part of the weekend.  Didn’t help that the new contact lens I put in got mixed with the old.  Two aren’t better than one.  Good news is that my vision is perfect today. \nContact Lens Problems \nMany of us wear contact lens as a convenience over glasses.  I switched when I had accumulated “cheater” glasses in most rooms of the house.  I was also paying for high definition on our televisions but not seeing it.  The problem with contacts (besides getting used to putting them in and taking them out) is that certain behaviors can lead to serious eye infections. \nMost ophthalmologists advise against wearing contact lenses while swimming\, showering\, or sleeping.  About 99% of us who wear contact lenses will do one of these behaviors.  This leads to one-third of all contact lens wearers to seek medical attention. \nBad behaviors can lead to viral\, bacterial\, or fungal infections.  Scratched corneas are also not uncommon.  Pseudomonas keratitis is a common bacterial eye infection among contact lens wearers.  It is often inflammatory with a sudden onset of redness\, pain\, tearing and poor vision. \n(Did You Know?   There are 41 million Americans who wear contact lenses.) \nBesides avoiding bad behaviors\, following common sense rules can limit eye infections.  Change contact lens solution in the case daily.  Do not reuse the solution.  Do not use water or saliva to moisten lenses.  Replace your lens container every three months.  Do not try to extend the use of lenses by wearing longer than they are prescribed. \nAnd do see your eye doctor at least yearly. \nFrom CDC. \nLA DOLCE VITA\, JOIE DE VIVRE: \nGazpacho time of the year.
