    Cancer and Exercise

Mused with memories of our golden retriever as she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge this weekend.  I know she’s playing with Oliver and Blue.

The JAMA Internal Medicine has recently published findings that show that there is a reduced risk of developing cancer with higher levels of activity in 13 of 26 cancers reviewed.

The cancers include: breast, liver, lung, kidney, gastric cardia, endometrial, colon, head and neck, rectal, bladder, esophageal adenocarcinoma, myeloid leukemia and myeloma.  The common cancers not affected by physical activity are prostate and melanoma.

(Did You Know? Physical activity, overall, reduced cancer by 7%.)

Three mechanisms have been theorized including lower estrogen levels in women, lower insulin levels, and again, lower levels of inflammatory markers.  The higher levels of activity were also associated with younger age, more education, lower body mass and lower likelihood of being a smoker.

    La Dolce Vita:

After two heavy topics let’s try humor.

“Ever stop to think and forget to start again?”

“Is it wrong that only one company makes Monopoly?”

“Women spend more time wondering what men are thinking than men spend thinking.”

”Sometimes I wake up grumpy; other times I let him sleep”

“If at first you don’t succeed, skydiving is not for you.”

Swimsuit season is here and Nichole wants me to remind everyone that she does waxing.  Add that to a new swimsuit and our sunscreen special and you’ll be ready for the sun, sun, sun.  Also she does relaxing facials that don’t require being off any skin care products.
