  • Breakfast Every Day

Mused after seeing the “Supermoon” and wonderful sunshine we had this past weekend. The next “supermoon” (because it is a full moon when closest to Earth) will be January 1 and 31, 2018. Don’t count on it reaching 60 degrees these two days.

Do You Really Need to Eat Breakfast Every Day?

According to Alice Lichtenstein, executive editor of Tufts Health and Nutrition Letter, “it does appear that people who regularly consume breakfast have a better dietary pattern throughout the day and may avoid overconsuming calories later in the day.”

The American Heart Association and most studies conclude that it is uncertain if breakfast helps people to maintain a healthy body weight or lose weight. However, a daily breakfast may contribute to overall healthier eating.

(Did You Know? To go with my coffee I usually eat Go Lean cereal with blueberries. I’ll add more protein with Boar’s Head lunch meat or vegetarian breakfast sausage.)

A healthy breakfast should include nutrient dense foods such as eggs, yogurt, and high fiber cereals. Fruit, vegetables and nuts should be added to increase nutrition and palatability. Don’t forget to use leftover meats and vegetables from last night’s dinner.

Whatever breakfast you choose whether it’s a croissant or bacon, eggs, hash browns, and toast, it should be balanced with what you eat the remainder of the day and regular physical activity.

Do you have unsightly brown spots on your face, hands or body?

SkinCeuticals (many of you use their skincare products) has developed a “pen” that uses cryotherapy or freezes age and sun spots as well as skin tags. It uses carbon dioxide which freezes the superficial part of the skin at -79 degrees C. The technique is similar to when family physicians and dermatologists use liquid nitrogen to treat skin cancers.

The procedure takes just a few minutes. The area is cleansed then sprayed with CO2 to freeze the spot. There is very little if any temporary discomfort. Immediately after, Vitamin C is applied and so can makeup. Vitamin C and a sunscreen are encouraged and should be applied while healing.

The lesion will get darker and possibly scab before it sheds. It can take 7-21 days to shed completely. Healthy pink skin or lightening of the dark spot will appear. Maturation of the skin then follows the normal skin cycle of 6 weeks.

    LA DOLCE VITA

Holiday songs have evolved over the last few years with the advent of music services such as Apple’s, Pandora, Amazon Music, Spotify, and iHeart Radio. For a couple of hours of music there are a variety of playlists on Amazon Music. For continuous listening, Pandora has some great stations. My current favorite is Pentatonics Holiday. They play the holiday songs of a cappella groups like Pentatonics and Straight, No Chaser to classical Christmas songs of Bing and Frank to the opera voices of The Tenors.
