  • Botox Day Tuesday May 19, Smell and Math

Botox Day is Tuesday May 19 with discounts on Botox and fillers such as Juvederm.  Botox is $13/unit or $195/syringe (normally $16/unit and $240/syringe) and fillers are 10% off.  Voluma is an injectable filler that augments and lifts the cheeks.  Buy a syringe for each side and get half off the second side saving $400.

A recent article in the journal Nature Neuroscience shows that our sense of smell has a mathematical correlation.  In other words, under identical situations our brain will interpret a certain smell the same way every time.

(Did You Know?   Spa facials and waxing are two of our new services.  Take advantage of this for summer!)

Our sense of smell begins when a packet of molecules gets inhaled.  Receptor cells respond by producing a series of electrical spikes which are communicated to the olfactory (sense of smell) bulb in the brain where it is decoded.

When the same number of “packets” are delivered to the receptor cells over the same rate, our brain interprets it the same way.  Consider it like Morse code signals where dots and dashes stand for specific letters.  Sounds elementary, but this pattern allows scientists to start predicting responses to more complex responses the brain has to various stimuli.
