    Bad Breath; Causes and Treatment!
    Botox Day Tuesday, June 21

Mused while adding cilantro to salad, try it!

Botox Day is Tuesday June 21  with discounts on Botox and fillers such as Juvederm. Botox is $13/unit or $195/syringe (normally $16/unit and $240/syringe) and fillers are 10% off. Voluma is an injectable filler that augments and lifts the cheeks.

Bad breath or halitosis is bacteria buildup causing inflammation and odors. 90 % of the bacteria are below the gum line and at the back of the tongue. The odors are produced mainly from the breakdown of proteins sulfur compounds (hence the rotten egg smell.) Mouth inactivity and less oxygen worsen the odor leading to “morning breath”.

Obviously, certain foods (hold the onions) contribute to this but there are many other factors. Medical conditions including diabetes, liver disease, and respiratory infections can cause bad breath. Symptoms contributing are acid reflux, postnasal drip and a dry mouth. Alcohol can make your breath smell for hours after you finish drinking. Smoking causes chronic bad breath.

(Did You Know? There are over 600 types of bacteria in the human mouth.)

Treating halitosis can be as easy as good oral hygiene and regular dental visits. Watching what you eat, staying hydrated, and using mouthwashes that kill bacteria are also beneficial. Brushing, including your tongue, specifically with an electric toothbrush, is essential after every meal. Sugarless gum 20 minutes after a meal helps promote saliva that reduces bacteria.

    La Dolce Vita:

This is NOT a feel good segment but as a father of four daughters I would be negligent if I did not encourage everyone to read about the recent Stanford University rape story. Here is a link to USA today: http://usat.ly/1XanXUq. Take the time to read the victim’s letter to the court. She describes how it has impacted her life.

    Specials:

Micropeels buy three for $195. Limit one per patient.

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) or microneedling face package of three treatments and get the fourth FREE. Go to www.dermapen.com for details of CIT. Improves wrinkles through stimulation of collagen.

    Something old, something new…

Swimsuit season is here and Nichole wants me to remind everyone that she does waxing. Add that to a new swimsuit and our sunscreen special and you’ll be ready for the sun, sun, sun. Also she does relaxing facials that don’t require being off any skin care products.
